I use my batteries down to empty in winter time. If your batteries are not used in winter, sure, store them at 50% and turn everything off (and disconnect the BMS if you can, otherwise it will drain the battery as well). But if you're using it all winter, and have alternative charge methods (based on cheap tariffs on the grid, generator, ...) just use them as you would normally but no need to charge to 100% or keep them above 50%.
Just make sure you don't charge when the battery is cold - try to keep it above 5°C for charging. 0°C is not a hard cut-off with 'anything goes' above it, there is a gradient between temperature and C (P) rate, even at 5°C you shouldn't charge at high C rate.
